FURTHER ACTION
Dear Mr. Ifor Evans,
28th January, 1941.
Thank you for your letter of the 24th January (HK/5/1) in which you confirmed that the Council approves the method suggested by the Acting Governor for the selection of
British Council scholarship holdersal Hong Kong.
You will recall that in his telegram No.818 of the 16th of December (a copy of which I sent to Bridges-Adams in my note of the 18th of December) the method of selection is to be nomination by the Council of the Sino-British Relations Association at Chungking of which – the British Ambassador is President.
method was approved in the Council's telegram of the 21st of December to the Governor. ve will now telegraph to Hong Kong to say that the proposed scheme of scholarships has the approval of the Council..
This
The Sino-British Cultural Association at Chungking must I think be the body to which you refer at the end of your letter as it was formed to administer the Boxer indemnity monies, and Mr. Han Li Wu has been closely associated with it.
As regards the grant from the Rhodes Trustees for post-graduate studentships, this has been a grant under consideration for some time to enable one or two selected Chinese
graduates
